You've made the exciting choice of stone, placed your order, and now the next crucial step is arranging the template date for your new countertops. Are you truly ready for it? To ensure a smooth and successful countertop installation, thorough preparation is vital. In this guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to know and how to prepare for your countertop template.
Why a Successful Template Matters
Before diving into the checklist, let's discuss why a successful template is so important. Think of it as the foundation for your dream countertops. The more accurate the template, the better the end result. It's like setting the stage for a perfect performance! The template serves as the blueprint for your countertops, and the more precise it is, the smoother the fabrication and installation process will be.
Checklist for Preparing for a Countertop Template
1. Prepare the Site
- Please ensure that there is an authorized person on-site on template day, at least 18 years of age, who can answer questions and provide necessary approvals.
- If you've provided your own sink, please let us know the manufacturer and model number beforehand. Alternatively, please have it on-site so we can accurately measure it. If you ordered your sink through Granite Mountain Stone Design, you do not need to worry about anything. We will ensure the measurements are accurate. Farm and apron front sinks should already be cradled and in place within the cabinetry before templating.
While inconvenienced by missing tops, you could still use your appliances as intended before the installation date is established following the template. |
2. Prepare the Cabinets and Surfaces
- Cabinets receiving countertops should be securely installed and levelled, providing a stable base for your new countertops.
- Make sure your cooktop is on-site and ready for the template. If there are any special vents associated with it, those should be available too.
- For any accessories like faucets, soap dispensers, or sprayers that require holes, please have them on hand during templating. If that's not possible, sharing spec sheets will do the trick.
- All appliances next to the countertops should be on-site or (for your convenience) in their final places, as you will still need to wait for the install date and could use them as intended in the meantime.
- All appliances next to the countertops should be on-site or in their final places for your convenience, as you will still need to wait for the install date and could use them in the meaRemember supports and end panels; they should be in position during templating. You'll need support on the open end if you have a dishwasher that's not between two cabinets.
- Make sure there's support if the overhang exceeds 12 inches on a full cabinet base.
- If you're templating over existing countertops, try to remove any backsplash if you can. It'll help with accuracy.
- Lastly, clear off your countertops and cabinets to allow for precise measurements. Think of it as making space for a masterpiece!
